September 21, 2007 – PARK(ing) Day

Conceived by REBAR, a San Francisco-based art collective, PARK(ing) Day is a one-day, global event centered in San Francisco where artists, activists, and citizens collaborate to temporarily transform parking spots into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public parks.

I was wondering what was going on. I went to lunch on Friday at Basil on Folsom (near 8th) and there was a guy who had set up a dog park in a parking space–there were little milk-bones and fire hydrants and a few dogs in there. I figured it was just another strange event on Folsom street–but it was legitimate. Now I get it! I liked the dog park parking space better than the real parking space.
