Mayor Gavin Newsom invites all San Francisco families with children to the 4th annual Family Appreciation Day on Sunday, January 11, 2009. For one special day, every San Francisco family with children ages 0 to 18 years old receives FREE ENTRANCE to 32 world-class museums and attractions. Plus, all kids ride MUNI and the new Culture Bus free on January 11 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm when accompanied by a paying adult. Find a complete Family Appreciation Day attractions list and event details at San Francisco’s Official Family Resource Guide: SFkids.ORG or by calling 311.

There is something for every one in every corner of the city including Fisherman’s Wharf, the Presidio, Golden Gate Park, Downtown, and Civic Center venues. In addition to major attractions—the San Francisco Academy of Sciences, San Francisco Zoo, deYoung Museum, Zeum, and Exploratorium—families can tour AT&T Park; play with snakes at Tree Frog Treks; board boats at the Hyde Street Pier; ride the elevator to the top of Coit Tower; twirl on the Golden Gate Park Carrousel; and take guided walks through Chinatown, the Mission, and across the Golden Gate Bridge. One adult in each family must show proof they live in San Francisco and be accompanied by at least one child.

Family Appreciation Day is one of a series of celebrations created by the Mayor to raise awareness of San Francisco’s abundant resources and attractions for children of all ages and their families. Events are coordinated by the Department of Children, Youth & Their Families.
